OIC provincial engineer declines permanent status; gets asst. post

CEBU, Philippines - The officer-in-charge of the Provincial Engineering Office (PEO) has refused to be promoted to a permanent position and instead asked to be appointed as assistant provincial engineer.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia yesterday clarified that there was no truth to the reports that she has demoted acting provincial Eulogio Pelayre.

Garcia said she has designated Provincial Planning and Development Officer, Engr. Adolfo Quiroga, as concurrent provincial engineer since last week because Pelayre refused to be appointed as permanent provincial engineer.

Garcia explained that even during her first term as governor, she wanted to name Pelayre as the provincial engineer but he refused saying that he still has many things to do before holding the position.

Garcia said Pelayre has requested that he would just be designated as assistant provincial engineer which she did a month ago.

Quiroga has been a provincial engineer before he became the PPDO head while Pelayre was under him.

Garcia said that with the tandem of Quiroga and Pelayre, the work of the two offices shall be coordinated and will “produce results efficiently and speedily.”

“I thought it would be more efficient,” she said.

The PPDO will be doing the planning while the PEO will be doing the implementation.

Garcia added that Quiroga could still tap his men at the PPDO in the implementation of the projects.  (FREEMAN)
