Rama mulls deployment of multicabs at Transcentral

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama is planning to deploy city-owned multicabs at the Transcentral Highway to address road accidents involving “habal-habals” or motorcycles-for-hire.

The multicabs will serve as the public’s means of transportation in going to and from the city’s mountain barangays along the Transcentral highway.

“Total, farm-to-market road na man nang mga agianan na ilang agi-an,” Rama said.

Rama yesterday met with Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, Balamban Mayor Ace Binghay and Lahug councilwoman Mary Ann Delos Santos to discuss the possible regulation of habal-habals at the Transcentral highway.

The officials agreed that habal-habal operations have been causing accidents on the national road leading to Balamban.

Delos Santos confirmed that habal-habal drivers are waiting for passengers in Lahug, near JY Mall going Balamban side.

Rama said they will study the possible ways to limit the areas where “habal-habal” drivers can enter. He however assured that there will be no total ban for “habal-habals.’ (FREEMAN)
