Man found dead in Mactan brgy

- Ria Mae Y. Booc -

CEBU, Philippines - The body of a 31-year-old man was found with a stab wound in a grassy area in sitio Soong I, Barangay Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City early morning yesterday.

Police identified the casualty as Antonio Igot, a resident in the area.

PO2 John Carlo Jocutan said Igot was found lying on a prone position with a single stab wound on the lower part of his chest. Police also recovered several tin foils, an empty disposable lighter and bottles of beer not far from the body.

Jocutan suspected that Igot was heading home when attacked by the suspects.

Police said that some residents heard a loud altercation prior to the time the body was found at 4am, but no one reportedly witnessed the incident.

“Imposible man gud nga wala’y makabantay kay naay mga balay sa palibot hinuon distansiya ra,” Jocutan said.

Police estimated the killing to have happened at about 3am. Igot’s cousin Edwin found the body at 4 am.

Edwin told the police he was drinking with Igot and some other companions prior to the supposed time of the incident but he reportedly left them to take a nap at a nearby shanty. When he woke up later and walked home, he saw Igot’s dead body on the ground.

Igot’s remains now lie at St. Francis Funeral Homes. — (FREEMAN)
