Man found dead, another shot by cousin

- Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja -

CEBU, Philippines - A 61-year-old man was found floating dead off the coast of barangay Daanlungsod in the town of Medillen yesterday morning.

Police identified the cadaver as that of Fernando Pasigay, married, a resident of sitio Max in the said barangay.

The police proceeded to the area after receiving a call from the person who found the body floating near the shoreline at 5am yesterday.

Investigation showed that the victim was last seen alive at 11pm the night before walking at the shoreline sluggishly as if he was drunk. The tide was reportedly low at that time.

The next time he was seen was a few hours later at 5am floating facedown in the water, his head and face blooded. Authorities said it is possible that sea creatures wounded the man’s head and face.

Police believed the victim died of drowning. Pasigay’s remains were submitted to an autopsy, as requested by the relatives, to determine if foul play was involved in his death.

Meanwhile, another man landed in the hospital after he was shot and hit by his cousin in Barangay Triumfo, Carmen town at 5pm last Friday.

Police identified the victim as Abraham Dayon, Jr., 38, and the suspect as Jovito Dayon, who fled after the incident. They are also neighbors.

A long standing grudge was said to be the motive behind the incident.

Florenda, the victim’s wife, told the police they were at the house when the suspect arrived and suddenly shot the victim.

The conflict between Abraham and Jovito was unclear, but Florenda said it was enough to reawaken an anger that prompted Jovito to shoot his cousin.

The victim, who sustained a gunshot wound on his body, was rushed to the Danao District Hospital while the suspect went into hiding and is now the subject of pursuit operation. (FREEMAN)
