Vice governor, eight PB members are millionaires

CEBU, Philippines - As per their Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net worth, the vice governor and eight Provincial Board members are millionaires.

This was revealed after the Office of the Ombudsman Visayas released the SALN of 12 government officials covering last year.

Vice Governor Agnes Magpale tops the list with a net worth of P53,700,000.

Magpale has P13,500,000 in real properties alone, including agricultural land in Nueva Ecija that she inherited, residential lots in Cebu City she also inherited, a commercial lot in Danao City which she purchased and beachfront area in Tuburan, Cebu, which she also inherited.

The personal properties of Magpale amounted to a total of P25,000,000 includes bank accounts, furniture, antiques, paintings, jewelry, books and appliance and time deposits.

She listed no liabilities.

She declared connections with the Northern Cebu Collages, Inc. in Danao City that she acquired in 2000 and JDA Agro-Industrial Development Corp. in Danao City for agricultural, real estate she acquired in 1996.

Magpale has four relatives working in the government; Vice Mayor of Danao City Ramonito Durano III, a cousin; Secretary of Department of Energy Jose Rene Almendares, her brother; Undersecretary of Department of Energy Josefina Patricia Asirit, her daughter and Sangguniang Panlungsod member of Danao City Miguel Antonio Magpale, her son.

Meanwhile, PB Member Sun Shimura led the list of PB millionaires with P23,400,000 for his net worth.

Shimura has real properties worth P21,000,000 including a beach lot in Malapascua Island and a residential lot in Pajo, Daanbantayan. His listed personal properties include a Nissan patrol worth P2,400,000.

Shimura is connected with Subterranean Water Company in Daanbantayan, Cebu.

He has two relatives working in the government, his mother Daanbantayan Mayor Maria Luisa Loot and his stepfather Vicente Loot who is a police official.

In second place is PB Thadeo Ouano with a net worth of P15,142,453.06. He has total assets for real and personal properties at P18,151,453.06 and for liabilities he has P3,009,000.

Ouano is engaged in real estate and manpower services in Mandaue City, Consolacion town and Cebu City. He has five relatives working in the government.

Third in the list is Peter John Calderon with P12,339,376 as net worth.

The total assets of Calderon are worth P12,739,376 and for liabilities he has P400,000. He has also eight relatives working in the government.

Shimura, Ouano and Calderon are followed by PB members Alex Binghay with P12,249,380; Wilfredo Caminero with P7,590,472.51; Julian Daan with P2,518,403.40; Jude Thaddeus Sybico with P1,840,000 and Sergio Restauro with P1,451,890.

PB Carmen Remedios Meca declared as the lowest net worth at P695,000. However, she has the most number of relatives working in the government with 11.

Next to her are PB members Joven Mondigo Jr. and Ceasar Ian Zambo with declared SALNs of P861,000 and P712,000 respectively.  — (FREEMAN)
