Garcia denies P5M commitment for T. Padilla

CEBU, Philippines -Governor Gwendolyn Garcia yesterday showed a newspaper report that she did not promise P5 million for the fire victims of Barangay T. Padilla, Cebu City for as alleged by Cebu City south district Rep. Tomas Osmeña.

Garcia read a newspaper report that it was City Treasurer Ofelia Oliva, who presided over the meeting of Cebu City Disaster Coordinating Council, said “she will sign a voucher for P5 million to cover emergency purchases of construction materials and other supplies to help the fire victims.”

“Diin mana niya punita nga mohatag ko og five million,” Garcia said, adding that she gave that amount to Barangay Lahug, Cebu City for the construction of its elementary school building.

Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Marivic Garces confirmed the provincial government provided goods to fire victims such as sardines, instant noodles, rice, mats, blankets, powdered milk, school supplies, children’s clothes, kitchen wares and materials for temporary shelter.

The provincial government promised to help Barangay T. Padilla in improving the area fronting the Museo Sugbo.

Provincial Engineer Eulogio Pelayre said he is still waiting for the advice of the barangay to proceed with the improvement when the problem of road-right-of-way is settled.

It was barangay captain Michael Ralota who reportedly said they have problems with the roads because the streets of T. Villa and F. Villa are privately owned.

“Basahon niya’g maayo dili kay mag-ambak ambak iya mata sa news,” Garcia said.

Garcia earlier said that Osmeña is out of tune when he made new promise to the people of Cordova, which he thinks of annexing it to Cebu City while he has yet to fulfill his promise to give cash assistance to the senior citizens.

It was Mayor Adelino Sitoy who said that the promise of Osmeña is not yet fulfilled while Garcia already provided the senior citizen building in Cordova.

Garcia added that she doesn’t brag while Osmeña is bragging of unfulfilled promise. — (FREEMAN)
