CEBU, Philippines - A call center agent was stabbed several times by her husband who then tried to take his own life in their house in Barangay Bacayan last Wednesday.
Marie Christine Sarjento Borja, 28, survived at least four stab wounds inflicted by her husband Ian Borja, 27.
Homicide Section investigators said the victim was sleeping inside the bedroom of their rented house in Villa Leyson around 7 p.m. when her husband suddenly attacked and stabbed her using two kitchen knives.
Marie, who later said she thought she was just dreaming, was awakened by the pain and tried to defend herself while shouting for help.
Lorna Mapili, 44, the helper of the couple, heard the shouts then rushed upstairs and actually saw the suspect repeatedly stabbing his wife.She rushed back downstairs, took the couple’s four-year-old child and left the house to ask for help from the neighbors.
Policemen from the Talamban Police Station responded to the area and took the couple to the North General Hospital.
The victim was injured in her neck, left side of the body, left shoulder and head.
PO2 Edario Manatad, Homicide Section investigator, said that as alleged by the victim, her husband had been depressed since he had not been able to find work for a year now.
The victim told them that she had no idea why her husband attacked her because as far as their relationship was concerned, they were okay and that they did not quarrel prior to the incident.
She also told policemen when she asked him why he attacked her he stabbed himself in the abdomen with a screwdriver and slashed his own wrist before collapsing on the bed next to her.
“Mikalit ra lagi daw ang suspek og panunggab.Ako bitaw siya giingnan na ipatan-aw og psychiatrist imong bana.Pero murag naa gyud ni lawom na problema ang suspek kay nabuhat gud to niya,” Manatad said. (FREEMAN)
