Provincial Board to fast track pending cases

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Provincial Board has agreed to fast track the investigation of administrative cases filed before them involving city and municipal officials.

The FREEMAN learned that most of these administrative cases were filed by the opponent of the mayors or other municipal and city officials. These cases involved the handling of funds, implementation of projects and other activities pertaining to the official functions of the public officials.

PB member Joven Mondigo said that both parties were given time to shed light on the issues based on the complaints filed before the PB.

One of the cases now pending at the PB is the complaint filed against Consolacion Mayor Avelino Gungob by the provincial government for alleged illegal quarrying activities in the mountain barangays of Consolacion.

Vehicles owned by the municipal government of Consolacion were impounded by the provincial government for being used in the illegal activity in barangay Nangka.

Gungob has denied the accusations. Another case pending at the PB involves the municipal officials of Daanbantayan and members of Tapilon Rural Waterworks and Sanitation, Inc. over the management of the water system.

The municipal government wants take over the operations of the water system in barangay Tapilon.

Capitol has stepped into the conflict between the municipal officials of Daanbantayan and members of TRWSI as it took over the management of the water system.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said the provincial government decided to take over the operations of TRWSI to ensure services to the people in the barangay.

An agreement was made in relation to Capitol’s taking over of the management of the water system.

Daanbantayan Mayor Sun Shimura signed the agreement on behalf of the municipal government while Joel Russel, manager of the waterworks, signed on behalf of TRWSI. — Jose P. Sollano/BRP   (FREEMAN NEWS)
