Tanods, lupons, health workers to receive increase in honoraria

CEBU, Philippines - Members of the Lupon ng Tagapamayapa, barangay tanods, day-care teachers, health workers and gender and development focal point persons in the barangays have something good to look forward to after Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña issued executive orders increasing their honoraria from the city.

City administrator Francisco “Bimbo” Fernandez informed the City Council that copies of the executive orders issued by the mayor have already been sent to Malacañang through Interior and Local Government Secretary Ronaldo Puno in compliance to the provisions of the law.

Osmeña ordered that each of the members of the Lupong Tagapamayapa, day-care teachers, gender and development focal point persons, health workers of the city’s 80 barangays would be granted a P1,000 monthly honorarium. Tanods get P2,000.

Such increase, which is on top of their existing honorarium from the barangays, will commence retroactive from October 1, the executive order reads.

The mayor explained that he decided to grant additional honoraria to the concerned barangay personnel in view of financial crisis and the skyrocketing prices of basic commodities.

Osmeña admired the contributions of the Lupong Tagapamayapa in resolving disputes in the barangays, thereby reducing the dockets of cases filed in courts.

“There is a need to increase their honorarium so as to uphold their enthusiasm to public work,” the mayor said.

It was not stated in the executive order of the mayor why he decided to give more to the tanods than the other barangay workers. — Rene U. Borromeo/BRP   (FREEMAN NEWS)
