2 people found dead in two barangays

CEBU, Philippines - Two people, believed to have committed suicide, were found dead in barangay Tisa and the mountain barangay of Budlaan.

Last Monday, Giovanni Badiang, 47, of sitio Upper Manol, barangay Tisa found his wife Norma hanging lifeless from the ceiling at their sala.

Badiang said he and his son Neco arrived home together around 5:30 pm when they noticed that their front door was double-locked from the inside. Norma also did not respond when they called her, which prompted him to kick the door open. What greeted them was Norma’s lifeless body hanging from the ceiling.

Badiang said that in the morning of the same day, Norma called him at his workplace in Lapu-Lapu City and told him that their son withdrew P4,000 from his savings in the bank and was reportedly planning to leave them. The couple had secured their children their own bank accounts.

Badiang said that when Neco went to his workplace around 2pm, he reportedly managed to convince their son to refund his ticket for Iloilo and stay home.

Except for the ligature mark on Norma’s neck, police found no other external injury on her body. Nevertheless, her remains would be subjected to an autopsy at the St. Peter Funeral Homes.

PO2 Michael Codaste of the homicide police said it is very possible that Norma decided to end her life because of too much worry that Neco would indeed run away.

“Naghikog tungog sa ka-guol sa iyang anak,” Codaste said.

Meanwhile, 23-year-old Jhobert Englatera, a motorcycle-for-hire driver, was found hanging lifeless from a mango tree in sitio Upper Tac-an, barangay Budlaan early afternoon last Friday.

Because of the state of his body, Englatera was believed to have died for a few hours already before Jovencio Malazarte found him. Malazarte said the area where Englatera believed to have hanged himself is frequented by lovers.

Englatera’s mother, Emelda, 42, said her son was having problems with the monthly payment for his motorcycle, which is reportedly scheduled to be repossessed by the dealer in Mandaue City this month.

Examination of the body indicated to foul play in Englatera’s death. His remains were taken to the St. Anne Funeral Parlor in barangay Ibabao, Mandaue City for autopsy. – Niña G. Sumacot/JMO   (FREEMAN NEWS)
