Korean faces charges for estafa

CEBU, Philippines - A Korean was indicted for estafa for allegedly leaving a hotel without paying the bills for his one-month stay.

Cebu City Prosecutor Nicolas Sellon yesterday transmitted to the Regional Trial Court Criminal Division the indictment documents against Kim Won.

The accused checked in at the Maxwell Hotel located at Escario St. Cebu City last January 7 in the evening. Kim stayed for a month.

The hotel management represented by Joederic Navoa and Golda Macalagay, front desk clerk and supervisor, respectively, alleged that Kim left his hotel room in the morning of February 8 leaving some of his personal belongings.

According to the complainants, they thought that the accused will come back because he did not bring his personal belongings. Several days after the accused failed to return to the hotel, the management decided to check his room.

The items were still there but Kim did not return anymore to claim them. He also did not settle his hotel bills amounting to P59,800.

The prosecutor’s office recommended P22,000 bail for Kim’s temporary liberty. It was not however clear whether or not the accused is still in the country. — Fred P. Languido/BRP   (THE FREEMAN)
