165 undergo interview for Qatar employment

CEBU, Philippines – A total of 165 applicants gathered at the Cebu Provincial Capitol Social Hall yesterday, hoping to pass the interview with employers from Qatar.

Jassim Services, United Group, Shoaibi Plastic Factory and Qatari government’s Principal Ministry of Interior are the four entities that offered career opportunities to interested Filipino workers.

Majority of the job orders were open to skilled and semi-skilled workers. Technicians and engineers were also in demand.

However, a wide array of job opportunities was also included for interested workers in the business sector. Work experience of at least three years is a requirement.

According to Julius Chua, employment officer of the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), the overseas job interview and hiring was a safer and more secure way of getting a job abroad.

“Basta sa PESO gani, accredited ang mga job orders sa Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA). Naa sag g’yud letters of acknowledgment ang employers and special recruitment letters ang agencies,” he said.

Some of the companies conducted walk-in applications, usually for skilled workers, while some had applicants screened beforehand.

The number of applicants who passed the interview has not yet been released. However, passing the interview does not mean that one is automatically hired. He or she must first go through the medical examination.

Meanwhile, more local and overseas job fairs will be held for the month of May. Besides the local job fair at the Capitol on May 1, Cebu City government will hold a job fair as well. Liloan will conduct one on May 9, San Fernando on May 13 and Danao City on May 29.

Interested applicants are required to bring their birth certificates, high school diploma (for high school graduates), transcript of records (for college graduates), and resume.

Those interested in working abroad, passports and certificates of employment will also be required. – Karen Grace H. (THE FREEMAN)
