Red Cross to hold "Operation Tuli"

CEBU, Philippines – For the first time in 12 years, the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC)-Cebu Chapter will hold the “Operation Tuli” on Saturday at the PNRC office.

The activity will be facilitated by the working team of Community Red Cross Youth.

According to Red Cross Youth supervisor Alvin Adolfo, the revival of “Operation Tuli” has long been planned.

He said it has just recently been finalized because of the availability of the working team, which consists of nurses, student nurses and health care professionals.

About 15 doctors from Don Vicente Memorial Medical Center and Cebu Institute of Medicine are expected to do the operations. Adolfo said the event is timely for the summer break.

The Red Cross Youth has already tapped different barangays in different municipalities for the staging of such activity.

The activity will be open to all, including walk-in patients, for as long as the number does not exceed 200 due to the limited supplies and doctors.

According to Red Cross Youth coordinator Osmyr May Daclan, the activity is a hygienic and sanitary way of continuing the tradition of circumcision. She said that the operation lessens the risk of urinary tract infection in males.

The activity will start at 8 a.m. and will end at 4 p.m. — Quennie Rose P. Olaño and Karen Grace H. Yasi (THE FREEMAN)
