BoC awards top 10 importers, exporters for 2005

The Bureau of Customs has awarded Cebu's top 10 importers and exporters for the year with the National Transmission Commission leading the list.
Transco paid at least P490 million in taxes with their importation of the submarine cables used in the Leyte-Cebu Interconnection Uprating Project. Norkis Group of Companies followed at far second with P208.5 million followed by San Miguel Corporation having paid P89 million in taxes, Galvaphil with P60.5 million, Energizer Philippines, Inc. at P53.8 million, AFC Fertilizer with P45.6 million, Alpha Oil Mill with P42.9 million, Joy Land Industries with P35.5 million, International Pharmaceuticals, Inc. with P28 million and Taiheiyo Cement Philippines with P22 million.
The top 10 exporters, meanwhile were Pentax Philippines, which had a total export value of US$353.6 million followed by Cebu Mitsumi at US$ 322 million, Lexmark International at US$153.6 million, Tsuneishi Heavy Industries at US$97million, Taiyo Yuden Phils. at US$44 million, Teradyne Philippines Ltd. at US$34.2 million, Fairchild Semi-conductor Corp. at US$32 million, Muramoto Audio Visual Philis. at US$29 million, Metro Wear at US$25 million and Profood International Corp. at US$23.6 million.
District collector Ma. Lourdes Mangaoang personally presented the plaque to the top 10 importers and exporters last week during the bureau's Christmas party.
Mangaoang, however, said that despite of the number of imports this year, the bureau still fell short of their target collection, which is P3.9 billion. - Fred P. Languido
