Mystic asean

The Biokinetics Dance Club Special Topic 1 Classes of the University of Cebu College of Education, under the brilliant tutelage of director and dance maestro Ceasar Amirhassan F. Nimor, will present Mystic ASEAN, a tapestry of traditional dances of the ASEAN region, on March 7, 2010 at three in the afternoon at the Elizabeth Mall Activity Center.

Mystic ASEAN is a dance tableau showcasing the diverse lifestyle, costumes and props of the following countries: Malaysia – Tari Wau Bulan; the kite-flying traditions of Kelantan, Indonesia – a medley of dances from Java, Bali and Sumatra featuring the Minankabau Plate Dance (Tari Piring); Singapore – Oh Singapura provides accompaniment to the medley of Singapore’s three main ethnic groups: Chinese (Peranakan), Malays and Tamils; Timor-Leste – Independence Day celebration of the “Island of the Crocodiles”; Vietnam – Mua Non La (Hat Dance) from southern Vietnam; Thailand – Loy Krathong Festival; Taree Geepus (Fan Dance) of southern Thailand; Philippines – Rigodon (Quadrille) of American, French and Spanish mix; Myanmar – water-splashing ritual of the Thin Gyan (Burmese New Year); Cambodia – Robamn Konsegsnear (Scarf of Love) of the Khmer Islam of Kampong Cham; Laos – Lumvong: Lao’s national dance; and Brunei Darussalam – typical Malay wedding entourage and Adai Adai (Fishermen’s Folk dance).
