Songs without words

Rudolf Golez, pianist extraordinaire returns for a Cebu concert in mid-January. He just arrived from a concert tour of the U.S East Coast. Rudolf is no stranger to Cebu, as he has done several concerts here every year for three years now. In 2008 however, he hasn’t performed and so an early 2009 engagement would be most anticipated especially after his successful debut at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Main Theater with Maestro Cristobal Halffter conducting the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra.

Featured on the program will be Great Composers of the Romantic Period. In focus will be the German child genius Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, in celebration of his 200th birth anniversary. Rudolf will play the Songs Without Words and the Rondo Capriccioso of Mendelssohn. Also in the program will be the Andante Spianato and Grand Polonaise of F. Chopin, a particular favorite of the Pianist and his audiences in his recent U.S. Tour.

There will be also some Liszt works to give a full account of the music of that most celebrated era of the Early Romantic Period. Incidentally, Mendelssohn, Chopin and Liszt were all born within a year apart, 1809,1810, and 1811 respectively.

The concert is scheduled on January 23, Friday at 8:00 pm, at the Marcelo B. Fernan Press Center, Lahug. For more information, please contact Mariz or Gerra at 233-0452.
