Senatoriable and former Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista welcomes the IATF decision to finally allow cinemas to reopen today after months of closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Better known as “Bistek” in the showbiz scene, he first made a name for himself as an actor/comedian before throwing his hat into and making an indelible mark in public service.
He is such an industry stalwart that seeing movie workers lose their jobs from cinema closure during the height of the pandemic broke his heart.
With the scheduled November 10 theater reopening, Herbert urges the public to go out and support local productions that braved protocol restraints to provide them much-needed entertainment.
He is hoping that theater owners will be open to dialogue with film producers in terms of providing incentives to Pinoy producers by way of tax breaks or taking a cut from their earnings at the box-office to entice other producers to make more movies.
“Since most theater owners earn more than the film producers, I hope they can agree to a moratorium wherein they will take in just 20 percent of the total ticket sales to enable the producers to recover from their pandemic loses,” Bistek said. “I hope they will be open to the idea. Hanggang sa makabawi lang naman ang film industry because a lot of people lost jobs.”
Since a 30 percent capacity in theaters will not be enough to generate income for producers, he hopes theater owners will be more lenient on local film producers and support them.
Bistek is likewise urging people to watch movies that will make up this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).
As the TV and movie industry is closest to Herbert’s heart, he is planning to file bills that will benefit the industry. Its workers will be on top of his priorities once elected to the Senate in the 2022 polls.
He is poised as well to push for bills and programs that will cater to and benefit locally produced products, i. e. food, fabrics, etc., that will boost and strengthen overall national pride.
At the onset of the “new normal” campaign season, Herbert will put together interesting vlogs that will feature the best, albeit oft-neglected aspects, of Pinoy culture and everyday life for the infotainment of not just the Boomers and Gen Zs but more importantly, the Alpha generation too.

Newbie producer Engr. Benjamin Austria, the man behind BenTria Productions, believes now is the right time to launch Kapuso hunk Jeric Gonzales in a solo movie, thus he and director Louie Ignacio chose him to play the lead in “Broken Blooms.”
“I believe in his potential as an actor that’s why he is our first choice to be the lead in our initial offering,” said Austria.
Jeric admits feeling the pressure since he is working with award-winning actors like Ms. Jaclyn Jose and Teri Malvar in the film written by Ralston Jover. He wants to use that pressure as motivation to give his best, since this is his biggest break as an actor.
Jeric is willing to do any scene, no matter how daring it is, for the sake of the movie. He has given his full trust to Direk Louie who will certainly guide him to come up with a good performance that will possibly win him an acting award.
As added pressure for Jeric, majority of the actors whom Direk Louie worked with in his movies won acting awards in festivals abroad like Barbie Forteza in “Laut” and Ms. AiAi delas Alas in “Area.” Director Joel Lamangan also won a Gawad Urian for best supporting actor in “School Service.”
“Panahon mo na, Jeric. Para sa ‘yo ito. Galingan mo,” Direk Louie told his new star.
