If you think furthering his boxing career is all he could think of, think again. Manny ‘Pacman’ Pacquiao has his hands full with hosting chores and school work as well. He hosts GMA 7’s newest show ‘Pinoy Records’ every Saturday, and spends eight hours a day at school from Mondays to Fridays as a Business Management student.
Boxing champion Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao takes on hosting chores in the new GMA show titled “Pinoy Records” which starts airing tomorrow, December 8, right after “Wish Ko Lang.” This is the first project of Manny under GMA 7 where he has Chris Tiu, the star player of the Ateneo basketball team, as co-host.
At the presscon of “Pinoy Records,” which is directed by Rico Gutierrez, the famed pugilist gamely answered all questions thrown at him, including several intrigue-laden ones.
According to Manny, hosting a TV show is no easy job. He has already experienced what it was like hosting through his previous program opposite action star Robin Padilla at the Kapamilya network.
“Hosting a show is difficult at first. It may seem easy because you’re just mouthing words, but it’s actually hard. But you’ll somehow get the hang of it,” said Manny in Filipino. When asked what record he wants to establish in “Pinoy Records,” he said that he wants to prove that he’s a good host.
According to the boxing champ, the things that the audience will see in “Pinoy Records” are not limited to boxing. “A lot of Filipinos are good in many things. Maabilidad ang Pinoy at talagang kahanga-hanga,” he said, adding that he believes that the Pinoy audience would enjoy the show.
Aside from being a boxer and TV host, Manny is also busy with school work. He’s taking up business management and goes to school from Mondays to Fridays, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. He’s proud to be back in school and determined to finish a course. For him, education is important and he wants to serve as an inspiration to others that age should not be a hindrance if one truly wants to finish a degree. It’s true, even if he has amassed many achievements as a boxer, he still dreams of finishing school. Add to that, he also wants to put up his own business one day.
When asked to differentiate the working conditions between ABS-CBN 2 and GMA 7, the boxing champ didn’t want to make any comparison although he expressed his happiness over being connected now with the Kapuso network. After accepting the good deal offered to him by GMA 7, he also he expressed his commitment to the Kapuso network. “I’ve committed myself to GMA 7 and I have given them my word of honor. I am not one who backs out of a commitment,” said Manny.

Young singing heartthrob Sam Concepcion, who is cited recently as the Department of Education’s (Dep Ed) newest spokesperson, embarks on a nationwide campus tour dubbed “SAMa, SAMa sa Eskwela with SAM Concepcion.” Sam is set to visit 50 schools to promote Dep Ed’s current programs that aim to instill in the youth love of self, family and country; moral and spiritual regeneration; and empowerment through education.
Sam’s campus tour kicks off at Santolan High School and Ramon Magsaysay Cubao campus on December 5; Roxas High School and Makati High School on December 7; and Caloocan High School and Malabon National High School on December 10. The rest of his visits across the Philippines will resume in January 2008.
Sam will perform songs from his self-titled debut album, which includes hits “Even If” and “Happy,” in his school tour.
Having joined many government campaigns like “Go Negosyo,” and “Anti-Smoking Campaign of the World Health Organization,” Dep Ed National Director Joey Pelaez is amazed at Sam’s drawing power among the youth. “It’s like Rico Yan fever all over again. Everywhere we go from Cagayan de Oro to Cebu, Davao and Pampanga, Sam has never failed to draw massive crowds. The response to this young man has been overwhelming. In fact, assurance of tight security is top priority everywhere he goes,” said Joey.
“Sam is an effective spokesperson having led countless oath takings encouraging the youth to be morally upright, say no to drugs, and commit to stay in school. We are proud to have him do this for the government,” he added.
Apart from his duties for Dep Ed, Sam does hosting chores in Studio 23’s award-winning youth program “Y-Speak.” He also stars in Regal Films’ “Shake, Rattle and Roll 9,” an official entry to 2007 Metro Manila Film Festival this December.
“SAMa, SAMa sa Eskwela with SAM Concepcion” is supported by PLDT SMART Foundation, and STAGES, in cooperation with Rep. Roman T. Romulo, Universal Records, Bench, Karate Kid, Elijah Dental, Skechers, Trumpets, Kiseki, and Monami Writing Instruments.
