Stars come out for Beyonce Concert

SHOWBIZ DRIBBLE - Salve V. Asis -

As many as 70,000 fans of Beyonce Knowles packed the R & B diva's open-air concert at The Fort last week. And they didn't go home disappointed. She kept the audience practically on their feet with such familiar numbers as Suga Mama, Naughty Mama, Beautiful Liar, Déjà Vu and Listen. Beyonce then spiced things up with a medley.

Gyrating with the crowd were showbiz celebrities which included Gretchen Barretto and sister Marjorie, Richard Gomez, love Lucy and daughter Julianna, Kris Aquino and James Yap, Sarah Geronimo, Anne Curtis and Donita Rose.

We were told the prince of Brunei bought all the front-row seats. Wow!

The show featured high-tech effects that added dazzle to the evening.

A revelation in the film Hide and Seek was Rubirubi, who played the role of maid of the haunted family of Eric Quizon. Rubirubi, whose real name is Ruby Esmaquil-Leonor, is, according to Tita Aster Amoyo, was the schoolmate of comedy diva Ai-Ai delas Alas in Far Eastern University. They were even classmates in several subjects. After graduating, Rubirubi worked at the Department of Trade and Industry before trying her luck in advertising. She joined an ad agency and worked under the tutelage of Ramon Dellosa. It was Dellosa who baptized her with the moniker Rubirubi.

She tried her hand at stand-up comedy and quickly discovered she had the talent for it. Soon she was making the rounds of the comedy bars in Quezon City.

Hide and Seek is Rubirubi's first full-length movie. I'm sure it won't be her last. It is directed by Rahyan Carlos for Regal Films.

Bea Alonzo celebrated her 20th birthday last October 17 with Mico Palanca at Tali Beach in Nasugbu, Batangas. "We spent a day together in Tali, but half of the day spent sleeping," says Bea. "Mico loves to sun-bathe but I can't."

The lovebirds had no chaperone but apparently they didn't need one. The two were in their best behavior. She's old-fashioned when it comes to pre-marital sex. "I would rather do it after I get married. But times and beliefs are changing, so I can't really be sure."

Now it's Kevin Federline's turn to throw some barbs at his ex, Britney Spears. Kevin's lawyer has requested a court in Los Angeles to bar Britney from driving when their two sons are in her car.

The father, it seems, doesn't trust his ex's driving. In 2006, she was photographed driving with her one-year-old son on her lap. Just last month, Britney pleaded not guilty to a charge of driving without a valid driver's license. That was after she crashed into a car in parking lot.

Federline has been awarded temporary custody of their two boys, Sean Preston and Jayden James, 1, after their mom kept defying court orders for her to undergo drug tests. She's allowed to visit them but only under court supervision.

After a rocky chapter in her life, the actress is trying to get singing career back together again.

She recently released Blackout, her first album in four years.

The couple divorced in July.

Screenwriters have been pounding the pavement since Monday, when they called a strike. That means TV show hosts like Jay Leno and David Letterman will be working without their usual coterie of gagwriters. Several prime-time series had to roll out reruns.

The Writers Guild of America is demanding a share of profits from the new media which include the Internet and DVDs. Show producers refused to oblige.

The strikers have some pretty snazzy sympathizers at the picket lines. Among the celebrities who dropped by were Julianne Moorem Nora Ephron, Robin Williams and David Duchovny. In New York Roseanne Barr, Holly Hunter and David Hyde Pierce joined the picket line.

Even California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is getting into the act. He has announced he's trying to patch up things between the writers and producers behind the scenes.

"I'm talking to the parties that are involved because I think it's very important that we settle that as quickly as possible, because it has a tremendous economic impact on our state," he told a news conference.

The Writers Guild last walked out in 1988. The strike lasted for 22 weeks, delayed the start of the fall TV season that year and ultimately cost the industry an estimated $500 million.
