Rama names CESET head as ‘garbage czar’

CEBU, Philippines —  Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama has named City Environmental Sanitation Enforcement Team (CESET) head Grace Luardo as “garbage czar” during the City Hall’s flag-raising ceremony Monday.

“Grace Luardo, by July first, will be the garbage czar with CESET and BEO (Barangay Environmental Officers),” Rama said.

It was, however, not clear whether Luardo will now spearhead the Department of Public Services.

Luardo herself in an interview with The Freeman said she was surprised by the announcement and does not know yet the details of her latest task.

Luardo thanked Rama for the trust and confidence and will continue to work on in addressing the garbage problem in the city.

"Wala pa ko'y ideya, kay giingon ni mayor kay garbage czar. Sa pagka-karon, motrabaho lang ta ug padayon ang atong paglimpyo sa kadalanan," said Luardo.

Rama also said that even though it’s not July 1 yet, those that have been named in the different departments should already start doing their new roles.

“Pasabot, di pa gani moabot ang July 1, you already have to do your job, mix, complement, collaborate,” said Rama.

For those who do not cooperate, Rama told Luardo to report to him and will not be renewed.

“Kung dili mo-collaborate nimo, dili mo-coordinate nimo, let me know then I will not review them,” said Rama. — GMR (FREEMAN)
