Obedience leads to COVID-freedom

The worldwide crisis brought about by the COVID 19 virus has raised up hackles for self-preservation. Many are wary of the news. When there are COVID-related posts, eyes try to evade the gory picture of hospitals overflowing with patients. 

People are returning back to panic mode as they  purchase oxygen tanks to make sure there is a ready supply should any member of their family get stricken by the disease that urged government to regulate the sale and require a prescription.

The air we breathe is supposed to be for free. And like the water that we now drink, that was once before streaming freely from brooks, and eventually to our faucets, now encased in bottles by who knows what purifying company, in receptacles that are dented and dirty in the outside. We buy our potable water more expensively for there is the water purifying service and the water container to pay for.

How clean is the water?  Well, it depends on the reliability of the supplier.

We all do not know what steps to take. The only clear road so far is to get vaccinated.  Because even though this is not a guarantee of freedom from disease, it at least helps one build up a defense against COVID.

Still the numbers of infected rise.

Is it because of the new variant? Could be. Is it because people flock to the vaccination areas in desperation, and forget about social distancing? Could be. Is it because people are vaccinated and therefore may record a positive score in the swab because they now have antibodies? Hmmmm…my doctor says no. So what has caused this curtailment of freedom?

There are many liberties we now miss. Seeing friends. Being able to hug them and talk with them and see their faces. We cannot travel, cannot eat out as freely was we want to. Everything has to be planned, and movements, conscious and careful.

We cannot even shake hands, and even fist bumps now are discouraged because some use the back of their hand to rub their eyes.

In a span of a few weeks I lost three friends, again. And no matter how much I deny the pressure this pandemic is giving me, I cannot help the feeling of being backed against the wall, sometimes.

What has caused the plague that is leading to the collapse of the economic, social and health systems? Disobedience? 

Looks like it. Ever since the world began, we have been known to be disobedient.  Adam and Eve did not follow the direction of God not to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.  You know they were not forbidden from eating the fruit of the tree of life. If they did, we would not need to be separated from Eden. We would be immortal, COVID-free like the highlanders!

Yet independence from restrictions cannot be achieved without having to be disciplined first. So this is what we are experiencing now. Discipline. Still, do we obey?
