Indian BPO body challenges Cebu to forge collaborations

Ehda M. Dagooc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  The National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) challenged Cebu stakeholders to initiate collaboration with India to etch its name in the global outsourcing map.

In his speech during the Transformation Summit held Wednesday, July 14, 2021, Nasscom head of research Achyuta Ghost urged players in the IT/BPO industry in Cebu to be more pro-active in seeking collaborations especially with India saying “no single country serve an entire village.”

For the industry to sustain growth, now that it is transforming into high level skills requirement, working hand-in-hand with other outsourcing destinations is the key to stay competitive.

Ghost was one of the resource speakers during the 3rd day of the virtual summit organized by the Cebu IT/BPM Organization (CIB.O).

According to Ghost, Cebu could be a valued partner to India, in terms of tech services, and other technology engineering jobs. Thus, there is a need for Cebu to identify its strength in talents and capabilities.

He mentioned that Cebu, where IT/BPM industry is dominated by traditional services like customer service and lighter outsourcing jobs, has to move up quickly as this type of jobs are declining. A sharp down trend in traditional BPO jobs is seen in the next five years.

Nasscom is currently conducting an extensive study identifying IT/BPM locations around the world of their respective strength for a collaborative effort to fast track growth in high value outsourcing demand.

Ghost believes that Cebu can play a vital role in its study, if players will initiate close ties with India BPO/IT industry.

Cebu could develop its engineering talents particularly in cloud engineering services, he added.

Nasscom is an Indian non-governmental trade association and advocacy group focused mainly on Information Technology (IT) and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry. It the apex body for the US$194 billion Indian IT/BPM sector.
