CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (CCCI) commits and advocates on industry-academe collaboration and workforce development as it continues to promote the dual approaches of vocational education and training in addressing industry jobs-skills mismatch in the Philippines.

The Assessment Certification and Accreditation Services (ACAS) Unit of the chamber is established to spearhead such advocacy with the participation of the main stakeholders consisting of the Associations, Chambers, Enterprises, and Schools (ACES).

With the demand for workers trained on industry-formulated job profiles and curriculum, the Basic Qualification Certificate (BQC) Assessment is conducted as one of the services under ACAS.

This year’s assessment was conducted from April 25 to 26 at the Ambassador Francisco Benedicto Hall, Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry Centre.A total of 62 Senior High School Graduates were assessed by CCCI under the Construction and Tourism-Hospitality Sectors. The BQC Applicants were products of the School of Knowledge for Industrial Labor, Leadership and Service (SKILLS, Inc.), who garnered 2-3 competencies certified by TESDA.

Senior High School graduates who underwent Dual Education and Training were assessed by the chamber requiring the applicants withat least 800 hours of immersion in the industry, bundled TESDA certifications, company immersion certificates and evaluation forms, immersion logbooks and SHS diploma.

Normally, in order to measure the ability attained by the students, the BQC Assessment is conducted after the SHS graduation ceremony. A pool of Assessors per Industry Cluster assesses, evaluates and deliberates whether the graduates are competent to deliver the bundled competencies. The BQC Assessment requires bundled competencies and certifies the individual on a specific job profile. The Basic Qualification job profile for Construction is known as “Builder Assistant.”; for Food Manufacturing, industries identified the job profile as “Food Processing Assistant” while for Tourism- Hospitality, as “Hotel and Restaurant Service Assistant”.

All SHS graduates who passed the BQC Assessment were certified by CCCI and as perks of the certification, the list of those who passed the assessment will be uploaded to the CCCI ACAS Databank (cebuchamber-acas.com) for Job matching and placement.
