Local businesses warned brace for influx of cheap Chinese goods

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu businesses are told to strengthen their foothold of the local market as cheaper Chinese goods is starting to flood the market along with the lingering trade war between China and the United States.

Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) president Stanley Go made this warning amid the brewing debate of trade between two economic superpowers—United States and China.

“If China reroutes all of its export products to other countries like the Philippines it would lead to trade disruption,” explained Go adding that if this happens, local products will have difficulty selling as cheaper China-made products will flood the market, and it would be harder for local manufacturers to compete.

Thus, as early as now, local businesses must make drastic moves in strengthening their market grip, Go further urged.

“We are very much affected by the trade war,” he reiterated.

If this trade war lingers some more, the world supply will be altered that may either lead to opportunities or doom in businesses.

China and the United States are engaged in a trade war as each country continues to dispute tariffs placed on goods traded between them.

US President Donald Trump had promised in his campaign to fix China's "long time abuse of the broken international system and unfair practices".
