CEBU, Philippines —  The Department of Education Cebu City Division kicked off the new school year with Local Stakeholders Convergence, a gathering of principals, teachers and education stakeholders, held May 19 at Mezzo Hotel.

The event was spearheaded by Dr. Bianito A. Dagatan, DepED Cebu City Division, and DepEd officials SGOD- Chief Dr. Joelyza M. Arcilla and Social Mobilization Division Mr. Reum Sespene, Marlene G. Padigos and Homer Florez. It discussed sustaining partnership through strategic framework and collaborative planning.

According to Dr. Dagatan, "The Department of Education, Cebu City Division conceptualized this local stakeholders convergence to purposely gather both internal and external stakeholders to know each other, to recognize their contributions to the department of education and at the same time for us to determine the level of cooperation and participation, and the level of understanding in terms of partnerships and networking."

The presence of the stakeholders during the event is a great gift to everybody. They have been helping the Education System specifically the Cebu City Division and now is the time for teachers and parents to see them in person. Dr. Dagatan added that the activity is one way of recognizing the stakeholders for the help they have extended to the public school students.

Some 82 external stakeholders coming from the different private industries, NGO’s, LGU representatives, foundations and generous individuals attended the event.

Dr. Joelyza M. Arcilla, OIC- SGOD Chief of DepEd Cebu City Division, shared the previous achievements of the Division in terms of partnership and networking. She emphasized that there is a need for the Department to strengthen its support system in schools because DepEd can never be without its partners.

“With the help of the partners, we can make tomorrow better than today,” Arcilla said.

As a show of appreciation for its partners’ invaluable support in helping the less privileged schools in providing quality education and child- friendly learning environment to the learners, the Division gave recognition to stakeholders whose contribution amounted to one million pesos or more for school year 2017-2018.

The convergence ended up with a commitment among stakeholders to sustain partnerships with Cebu City schools and continue to support the learners to attain their dreams.
