Painting the roads

MOTORIST’S CORNER - Nimrod NL Quiones -

If you have recently passed the Cebu South Coastal Road, you must have noticed that the roads in Talisay City have been painted to emphasize that slow vehicles have to use the right lane and while lanes are not for bikers and motorcycles.

Although I don’t see public utility jeepneys passing the road often, there is also a NO PUJ LANE.

While the effort to put more order is welcome, the manner of painting the roads seems to be done with little planning.

Since the signs are already there, what the motorists want to see next is the implementation of the laws.

There seems to be no implementation as we see motorcycles on the NO MOTORCYCLE lane and there are even vehicles that go against the flow of traffic that are allowed to pose a danger to many people by the traffic authorities.

At around noontime last Sunday, a tricycle driver went against the flow of traffic entering from Rabaya St., but the traffic personnel manning the light in that corner did not even bother to call his attention. Well, maybe they didn’t see the person or were simply too lazy to do anything.

If the Talisay City traffic authorities are really serious about putting order at the coastal road, they should not allow vehicles to be parked there causing the road to narrow.

There is also an existing ordinance banning tricycles and trisikads at the coastal road, which is now not being implemented.

A reader said that aside from the coastal road, the Talisay traffic authorities have also identified a NO PUJ LANE on the highway in the Lawaan and Linao area.

“Who will apprehend the jeepney drivers, who will violate that?” This was the question raised by a motorist from the south, who we recently met.

He added, “they can’t even clear that road beside Gaisano, how can they implement all the laws they are making.”

Last week we received email from Forest Gerdes, who asked when the CITOM will replace the busted traffic lights at corner Salinas and Gorordo.

The city has announced that there was a budget for such and then later that the needed equipment have been ordered.

We wonder what has happened to that project.

This intersection is one that is really giving many people a headache and they believe that this is a matter of incompetence on some people and not just politics.

We hope you’ll show them that it is not the case gentlemen of the CITOM including our city officials, who are sitting in the board.
