NEO edges ahead of competition with cost-efficient ultra-portables

CEBU, Philippines - Relatively new in the computer manufacturing industry and commonly perceived as a cheap brand, NEO Philippines believe that their cost-efficient computing solutions combined with the latest technology can enrich the lives of individuals and businesses.

NEO Manufacturing and Services (NEO) is a Philippine-based manufacturer of Personal Computers, primarily catering to the market's need from home computing to enterprise computing.

NEO Philippines product development manager JP Domingo said NEO is known for its price leadership where both the individuals and small businesses can benefit from the high performance of its primary notebook lines, the Basic, Vivid, and Elan at affordable rates.

Despite its three initial lines now making waves in the market, the NEO Team continues to strive to meet the fast changing consumer preference for standard-based computing solutions that is within everybody’s budget.

Now, redefining cutting edge mobility and performance, NEO Philippines recently launched in Cebu the Neo EDGE line of ultra-portables.

Likened to the ultra-sharp samurai blade “katana”, the new EDGE laptops were carefully crafted to achieve balance between ultra-portability and performance that gets the job done.

Designed for work and leisure and even for highly multi-tasking individuals, Neo EDGE comes in three models, the Neo EDGE Z3240, Z3265, and the Z1280 netbook also known as the mini-edge.

The Neo EDGE Z3240 is a full-featured ultra-thin notebook that sports a 13.3-inch WXGA LCD display with a 16:9 aspect ratio. Truly an executive traveling companion, this model utilizes an ultra-low voltage Pentium processor with 2MB of L2 cache and 3GB of system memory but has longer battery life than standard-voltage notebooks.

Complemented by connectivity options including USB 2.0 and HDMI. VGA, LAN, and additional USB ports are provided by the mini port replicator which is bundled free with the Z3240. It also provides wireless connectivity through Bluetooth 2.0, Wi-Fi, and most notably 3G/HSDPA using a local 3G-enabled SIM card.

The Edge Z3240 has an ultra-thin design, sleek silver metal finish and only weighs less than 1.5 kilos and thinner than 22 mm all throughout.

Meanwhile the Neo EDGE Z3265 also weighs less than 1.5 kilos at only 23mm thin. Shares similar features with the Z3240 except that it runs on an ultra-low voltage Core 2 Duo processor with 3MB of L2 cache and 2GB of system memory. The 320 GB SATA hard drive is also more than double the capacity of the previous model.

The third model Neo EDGE Z1280, which is a netbook that completes the line, features a 10-inch widescreen LCD and weighs less than 1.4 kilos even with a 6-cell battery- ideal for long computing hours on the road. Powered by Intel’s Atom N280 processor greatly enhanced by the free upgrade to 2GB of RAM and a jump to 320GB hard disk space. It also sports a multi-format card reader, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

Pre-installed with the latest Microsoft Windows operating systems, such as XP, Vista or the up and coming Windows 7, every Neo EDGE laptop is simple and user-friendly.

With its consumer-friendly packages, Neo EDGE successfully defies the perception that

laptops need to be pricey to be efficient, thus being true to its commitment of making its products available to everyone.

Domingo said while other brands have already launched their own version of Consumer Ultra-Low Voltage (CULV) products in the market, NEO preferred to launch its CULV product lines only recently to dedicate enough time on market study.

Intel Philippines marketing manager Jerome Matti said that with the current CULV innovation, the common problem of laptop users regarding computer thermals and battery life is now a thing of the past as CULV now requires less power to run and emits less heat.

Domingo said the first generation Edge was actually launched in the third quarter of 2009 with the Pentium single core, while the second generation recently launched already runs on a Pentium Dual core.

Domingo further said that while the EDGE series is pegged at a price closely competitive against other brands, the premium lies on the longer battery life and maximum portability of the products.
