Apo Floors helps build RP's eco-friendliest homes

MANILA, Philippines - APO Floors, the market leader in the manufacturing and distribution of resilient flooring, has just participated in Philippine Reality TV’s “Project Green Home,” where the first real estate lifestyle TV show in the country took on the challenge of building one of the country’s greenest homes from the ground up.

That is, with the help of APO Floors and other industry experts in the fields of construction, architecture, interior design and care for the environment.

APO Floors has brought in the project its factory finished engineered wood planks made of natural and biodegradable timber locally sourced from a permanent forest in Surigao. In this forest, trees are selectively cut and replanted to ensure that the forest remains virtually untouched.

Said forest was even cited as a model for sustainable development by the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), “Best practice in Forest Management” by the UP College of Forestry and Natural Resources, and is in the United Nations-Food and Agriculture Organization’s list of Exemplary Forest Management in Asia & the Pacific.

According to APO Communication Manager Missy Castro, “We are proud to be a part of Project Green Home through APO Realwood. This product truly embodies our environmental consciousness.”

“With APO Realwood, we give home builders an opportunity to have the warmth and beauty of real wood in the flooring of their homes without the guilt of denuding a forest,” she said.

APO Realwood in Sedona was used for the whole 79 square meter of the house’s 2nd floor.

Made from Toog or Philippine Rosewood, APO Realwood’s tongue and groove construction makes installation a snap. It is easy to maintain as well as it comes pre-finished with eight coats of UV cured polyurethane, which provides better wear durability. Just sweep and mop – absolutely no need to wax it.

All APO Realwood planks go through stringent quality tests to ensure that they meet strict international quality standards like American Standards for Testing Materials (ASTM) and British Standards (BS).

Hosted by Gabe Mercado and Angel Jacob, the launch episode of PRTV’s Project Green Home will be aired on ANC on May 22 at 7:30 p.m.; May 27, 6 p.m.; and May 28, 11 a.m. It will also be shown on May 31, 8:30 p.m. and June 4, 10 a.m. on the Lifestyle Network.
