A tribute to a former chief justice

In honor of the late great Fred Ruiz Castro, who served as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court from 1976 until his death in 1979, the University of the Philippines recently inaugurated the Fred Ruiz Castro Room in Malcolm Hall, UP Diliman, Quezon City. Soon after the book launch of Primus Inter Pares in 2014 commemorating his centennial year, published by his daughter Sandie Castro-Poblador and the CJ Fred Ruiz Castro Educational

Foundation, the off shoot was to establish a conference room in his honor at his alma mater, UP Diliman. He is the only Chief Justice with his own room at the College of Law. With the invaluable assistance and dedication of UP president Danilo Concepcion and attended by Sandie who delivered a speech on behalf of the family, the inauguration was a wonderful commemoration of the well-loved father, member of the Armed Forces, law teacher and judge. Well wishes to Sandie and the rest of Fred’s family!
