Globe boosts mobile banking with free access to BPI Express Mobile app

MANILA, Philippines - The BPI Express Mobile app, the most downloaded finance app in the country, becomes even more accessible, as the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) recently launched free access to the widely-used app to Globe Telecom’s over 38 million prepaid, postpaid and TM customers.

Manuel Tagaza, senior vice president and head of electronic channels group of BPI, said the bank is looking at increasing the users of the BPI Express Mobile app to about 700,000 by the end of the year from the current number of 500,000.

Tagaza pointed out that about two million of the seven million clients of BPI are now using the Internet to do their transactions.

“BPI has always been at the forefront of introducing new channels for our clients to access their accounts conveniently. The BPI Express Mobile app, our latest innovation, is doing very well. Since its re-launch in June last year, it has consistently been the number one downloaded finance app in the country,” he said.

He pointed out that BPI wants to make mobile banking even more accessible by providing free access to all Globe and TM subscribers– no service fee to transact, no data charges to access.

Under the offer, Globe subscribers could enjoy having no data charges whenever they log on and transact using the BPI Express Mobile app using the telco’s robust mobile data network from April 30 to Aug. 31.

BPI executive vice president and head of retail segments and channels group Natividad Alejo said mobile banking has never been more accessible with the surge in the use of smartphones in the Philippines.

With the BPI Express Mobile app, instead of queuing in bank branches, users can complete banking transactions using their mobile phones in as fast as 30 seconds.

Alejo said the BPI Express Mobile app allows clients to pay their bills, transfer money to other BPI clients, invest, and reload their prepaid phone–wherever they are, whenever they want.

She added that clients could also track their finances through a 24/7 view of where their money is going.

With the power of the Southeast Asia’s first bank in your pocket, BPI vice president and head of channel management and channel service divisions Armando Navarrete Jr. said clients could make their budgeting less of a chore and kiss unaccounted-for expenses goodbye.

“Banking is not a chore and it doesn’t have to be with the BPI Express Mobile app,” he said.

This promo is another first for both BPI and Globe, with both companies being at the forefront of innovation in banking and telecommunications.

The BPI Express Mobile app could be downloaded from the iTunes App Store, Google Play, and Blackberry App World.

Daniel Horan, Senior Advisor for Consumer Business at Globe, said the company is encouraging subscribers to take advantage of doing their bank transactions through the BPI Express Mobile app.

â€œFrom offering our subscribers free online services, we want to get more Filipinos online and fully embrace the smartphone and data revolution. With the free access to the BPI Express Mobile app, banking has become easier, more convenient, and definitely more affordable,” Horan said.

According to him, the partnership shows that access to the mobile phone is not just about calls and texts, but financial services as well.
