Undas observance generally peaceful

CEBU, Philippines — The Department of Interior and Local Government has commended the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the local government units (LGUs) for ensuring the public’s safety throughout the country during the observance of Undas 2023.
This as DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos has declared that the observance of Undas 2023 was generally peaceful and orderly.
That is notwithstanding the fact that Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) was held on October 30 (Monday), or just two days before the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.
Abalos, in a statement, said that some three million people flocked to various cemeteries nationwide on November 1 and 2, 2023 but no serious untoward incidents were reported during the observance of the holidays.
“Kudos to the PNP and LGUs for safeguarding Filipino voters as they exercised their right to suffrage during the BSKE, and ensuring a peaceful and orderly observance of Undas. Tunay na kahanga-hanga ang inyong dedikasyon sa paglilingkod,” Abalos said.
“I extend the gratitude of the national leadership to all PNP regional offices and units, partner agencies, non-government organizations (NGOs), and volunteers for making this happen,” he added.
Various government agencies under the Department of Transportation has activated the Oplan Biyaheng Ayos starting October 27, 2023 until November 5, 2023 and all ports in Cebu are on heightened alert status over the ten-day period to ensure the safety and security of all passengers, especially those traveling back from the long weekend.
Data from CPA noted that a total of 377,038 passengers coming and departing from Cebu ports from October 27, 2023 to November 2, 2023. — (FREEMAN)
