Megaworld soon to open Belmont Hotel in Mactan

MANILA, Philippines — Andrew Tan-led Megaworld aims to cement its presence in Cebu and become the largest hotel operator in the province with the opening of its second homegrown hotel development by the fourth quarter.

The property giant will open the 20-storey Belmont Hotel Mactan inside its 30-hectare township, The Mactan Newton in Lapu-lapu City.

This will be the 12th hotel property of Megaworld Hotels & Resorts.

Cleofe Albiso, Megaworld Hotels & Resorts managing director, said Belmont Hotel Mactan would be Megaworld’s third Belmont Hotel property in the country.

“It is only about 15 minutes away from the Mactan-Cebu International Airport and will offer an unparalleled opportunity for families and travelers visiting Cebu either for business or leisure,” Albiso said.

With the opening of Belmont, Megaworld said it would become the largest hotel operator in the whole of Cebu Province in terms of the number of hotel keys.

Belmont Hotel Mactan will have 550 rooms and a mix of suites.

The new hotel will be located beside Savoy Hotel Mactan along Newtown Boulevard, and only a few minutes’ walk from the Mactan Newtown Beach and the soon-to-rise Mactan Newtown Beach Walk Mall, Albiso also said.

Megaworld opened Savoy in Cebu in 2019, making it the township’s first hotel property.

Last year, Megaworld Hotels & Resorts also opened the 529-room Kingsford Hotel Manila in Westside City, Parañaque, in the middle of the pandemic.

To date, Megaworld Hotels & Resorts has already opened 11 hotel properties under six homegrown brands with around 4,000 hotel keys.

These are the Richmonde Hotel in Ortigas in Eastwood City, and Iloilo; Belmont Hotels in Newport City and Boracay; Savoy Hotels in Newport City, Boracay and Cebu; Twin Lakes Hotel in Tagaytay; Hotel Lucky Chinatown in Binondo, Manila; and Kingsford Hotel in Parañaque City.

Megaworld Hotels & Resorts posted a 49 percent year-on-year growth in its revenues to P1.1 billion in the first half of the year.
