MANILA, Philippines — ABS-CBN Corp., in partnership with Globe Telecom Inc.’s entertainment company KROMA and corporate venture builder 917Ventures, will soon launch the country’s first multi-platform interactive channel.
In a statement yesterday, ABS-CBN said PIE or Pinoy Interactive Entertainment, which would enhance Filipinos’ consumption of content by going beyond watching shows and enabling the audience to play an active role in storytelling, game shows, and talk shows, would be launched next month.
Through PIE, the audience can join all-day contests, build following, and even guide a teleserye’s storyline as they watch shows across various platforms such as TV sets, laptops, desktops, and mobile devices.
PIE will be bringing back classic game show “Pera o Bayong” with an interactive format and give away prizes every hour for viewers.
It will also introduce the country’s first interactive teleserye “UZI”.
Through its reality show “Palong Follow,” viewers will be working together in finding the country’s next big digital content creator.
Viewers will also be invited to participate in PIE’s other shows such as “Ekstra Ordinaryo,” “Bida Body Part” and “Playlist Natin.”
ABS-CBN chief operating officer of broadcast Cory Vidanes said the partnership for PIE is in line with the organization’s digital push.
“ABS-CBN is committed to bringing innovative content to as many Filipinos as possible, and in recent years, we have been engaging audiences more through a stronger digital presence and collaboration with various groups. Our partnership with PIE is a significant step in that direction and we’re looking forward to engaging with Kapamilyas in a whole new way,” she said.
“Filipinos are very social. We love hanging out with our friends, doing activities together, and simply having fun together. But this kind of connection is something we abruptly lost at the onset of the pandemic. Filipinos long for collective fun, and PIE hopes to fill that gap,” KROMA Entertainment chief executive officer Ian Monsod said.
For his part, 917Ventures managing director Vince Yamat said the company aims to continue to deliver digital solutions to Filipinos.
“This time, with PIE, we want to bring our kababayans an entertainment experience they can share. We want Filipinos to have a new way to enjoy and celebrate everyday wins to help uplift them despite their daily battles. We want them to feel like we are still together even while physically apart,” he said.
PIE, which started its test broadcast this month, will be available through YouTube.
The channel will also be accessible to 11 million households with digital TV boxes in Metro Manila, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Zamboanga, Naga, Baguio and nearby provinces, as well as 85 million digitally connected Filipinos.
Viewers may now rescan their digiboxes to find PIE.
