PEZA seeks better delivery of parcels

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) is looking to partner with the Philippine Postal Corp. for the improved delivery of parcels in ecozones in line with efforts to promote ease of doing business.

PEZA deputy director general Tereso Panga said in a social media post that the PEZA and Post Office seek to enhance the release and delivery of ecozone parcels and packages.

“By having an on-site post office at our pilot site in Cavite Economic Zone, ecozone locators need not go to the airports to claim their parcels and packages,” he said.

PEZA director general Charito Plaza said the partnership is expected to be a big boost to ease of doing business and improve logistics services.

She said the partnership is also expected to help make the ecozones more attractive to investors.

At present, there are 415 operating ecozones in the country nationwide.

Of the total ecozones, the bulk are owned, developed and managed by the private sector, while four are public ecozones.

To date, there are over 4,000 locator companies registered with the PEZA.

PEZA, which was initially aiming for a seven percent growth in approved investments this year, has trimmed its target to five percent with the pandemic affecting investor sentiment.

As of end-October, investments approved by the PEZA reached P62.72 billion, down 14 percent from P72.64 billion in the same period last year.

In 2020, the PEZA approved a total of P95.03 billion worth of investments.
