Ayala, Razon seal Wawa project

MANILA, Philippines — Ayala-led Manila Water Co. Inc. and Enrique Razon Jr.’s Prime Metroline Infrastructure Holdings Inc. (PMHI) have formalized the construction of an 80-meter dam in Montalban to ensure sufficient water supply in the East Zone area.

In a regulatory filing, Manila Water said it signed a memorandum of understanding with PMHI for the development of the Wawa Bulk Water Supply Project.

Both parties initially agreed to form a technical team that will conduct a technical due diligence on the Wawa project.

Based on the recommendations of the technical team, the companies will discuss the possibility of having an off-take arrangement, which will be subject to the prior review and approval of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System.

Manila Water needs to produce 80 million liters of water per day to cope with its water requirements and solve one to two years of possible water supply deficit.

The Wawa Dam feasibility study is also expected to be finished by the first quarter.

With the new proposal for the Wawa Dam which has a capacity of 500 MLD, Manila Water would have to buy the raw water.

Manila Water is already breaching the supply allocated for them amid increasing demand of about 1,640 MLD. It is even utilizing supply from the La Mesa Dam which is supposed to be for reserves.
