MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Energy (DOE) has endorsed five power projects with over 600 megawatts (MW) in capacity.
The agency issued certificates of endorsement (COE) for these projects, which have a combined capacity of 619.92 MW.
These comprise four renewable energy plants and only one coal-fired plant.
The biggest project on the list is SMC Consolidated Power Corp.’s 4x150-MW circulating fluidized bed coal-fired power plant in Limay, Bataan.
The renewable energy projects include two biomass power plants, one hydropower facility and one waste-to-energy project.
The biomass power plants, with 5.96-MW and 3.96-MW capacities, are located in South Cotabato and are owned by Biotech Farms Inc.
DOE also endorsed the eight-MW mini hydropower project of Asiga Green Energy Corp. in Santiago, Agusan del Sur.
The last project endorsed for the month is the two-MW waste-to-energy project of Asian Carbon Neutral Power Corp. in Tarlac City.
The COE is a requirement for the issuance of certificate of compliance (COC) by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), which is necessary before any generation company can commence commercial operations.
The COC has a term of five years during which period the generators are required to comply with the terms and conditions set forth in the ERC’s guidelines which include reportorial, technical and financial requirements.
