MANILA, Philippines — AF Payments Inc. (AFPI) has partnered with digital wallet and mobile payments app Coins.ph to enable commuters to reload their beep™ cards using the app.

Through the partnership, commuters can quickly load their beep™ cards from their Coins.ph digital wallet by simply tapping their card on their NFC (near field communication) – enabled Android smartphones.

“Coins.ph provides beep™ cardholders the ability to load their cards anytime, anywhere just by tapping their card on their smartphone. This added convenience means no more falling in line to add load during the busy rush hour,” AFPI president and chief executive officer Peter Maher said.

Coins.ph, licensed by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) as an electronic money issuer and remittance and transfer company, currently has four million customers.

The company allows customers to put value in their Coins.ph wallets, send money to family and friends, pay their bills, purchase load, buy bitcoin, and make payments directly from their phone.

Coins.ph digital wallets can be funded in over 33,000 locations including 7-Eleven stores and M Lhuillier branches.

“Each day, nearly two million Filipinos are forced to wait in long lines to top up their beep™ cards with cash,” Coins.ph chief executive officer Ron Hose said.

“With this collaboration, beep™ cardholders can seamlessly use Coins.ph to load their cards with their phones and make payments anywhere beep™ is accepted. This solution represents a catalytic step forward in a vision that we share with the BSP of forging an advanced digital economy by 2020,” Hose added.

To load using Coins.ph, users simply have to download the latest version of the app from the Google Play Store and register or log in to their account.

Users can load as little as P10 on their beep™ card through Coins.ph without additional charges.

AFPI, the consortium of Metro Pacific Investments Corp. and Ayala Corp., is behind the beep™ card currently being used in Metro Manila’s Light Rail Transit Lines 1 and 2 and Metro Rail Transit Line 3.

Apart from the three rail systems, the beep™ card is also currently accepted as payment on select bus lines, tollways Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway and North Luzon Expressway, as well as select branches of FamilyMart, Robinsons Movieworld and Wendy’s.
