TV rating leadership still a toss-up in Oct

MANILA, Philippines - ABS-CBN Corp. and GMA Network Inc. both claimed to have topped nationwide television (TV) ratings in October.

In a statement yesterday, ABS-CBN said it kept its lead in the TV ratings game as it obtained a national average audience share of 45 percent last month, an 11-point lead over GMA’s 34 percent based on data from Kantar Media.

Kantar Media used a nationwide panel size of 2,610 urban and rural homes that represent 100 percent of the total Philippine TV viewing population.

ABS-CBN said it won in the primetime block (6 p.m. to 12 midnight) or the most important part of the day when most Filipinos watch TV and advertisers put the bulk of their advertising spend.

In particular, ABS-CBN got a national audience share of 47 percent, higher than GMA’s 34 percent.

ABS-CBN also said it ruled the other time blocks nationwide as it had a 40 percent audience share in the morning block (6 a.m. to 12 noon) versus GMA’s 36 percent; 45 percent share in the noontime block (12 noon to 3 p.m.) compared to GMA’s 33 percent, and 45 percent audience share in the afternoon block (3 p.m. to 6 p.m.) against GMA’s 34 percent.

By area, ABS-CBN said it stayed ahead through an average total day audience share of 40 percent versus GMA’s 37 percent in total Luzon, 53 percent compared to GMA’s 29 percent in the Visayas; and 55 percent against GMA’s 29 percent in Mindanao.

In terms of TV programs, ABS-CBN said it accounted for 10 of the 12 most watched programs in October, with FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano getting the top spot.

Meanwhile, GMA said it strengthened its lead in TV ratings as it had a 37.4 percent average household audience share in National Urban TV Audience Measurement (NUTAM), more than ABS-CBN’s 35.6 percent, as shown by Nielsen TV Audience Measurement data.

GMA said it got top ratings across all day parts in NUTAM, including primetime due to the continued strong performance of its programs.

Out of the 10 most watched programs in NUTAM in October, six belonged to GMA with Encantadia emerging as the highest-rating Kapuso show nationwide.

GMA said it remained the leader in Urban Luzon which represents 77 percent of all urban households in the country, as it accounted for 41.9 percent share, while ABS-CBN got only 31.3 percent.
