ABS-CBN, GMA claim ratings lead in April

MANILA, Philippines – Listed media and entertainment firm ABS-CBN Corp. kept its nationwide television (TV) ratings lead in April, while rival GMA Network Inc. said it maintained its dominance in the areas of Urban Luzon and Mega Manila in the same month.

Based on data from Kantar Media, ABS-CBN said it remained the most watched TV network  in the country through its average audience share of 44 percent, higher than GMA’s 34 percent.

Kantar Media has a nationwide panel size of 2,610 urban and rural homes, representing 100 percent of the total Philippine TV viewing population.

ABS-CBN sustained its leadership in key territories such as Balance Luzon or areas in Luzon outside Mega Manila, where it had 45 percent audience share compared to GMA’s 36 percent; in the Visayas with 54 percent versus GMA’s 26 percent; as well as in Mindanao with its 54 percent share against GMA’s 28 percent.

It also remained the king of the primetime block with its 50 percent average audience share compared to GMA’s 31 percent.

The primetime block is when advertisers pour in the bulk of their spending as most Filipinos watch TV during this time.

Meanwhile, GMA said it continued to dominate Urban Luzon and Mega Manila, which respectively account for 77 and 60 percent of all urban TV households in the country.

In Urban Luzon, GMA took the top spot through its 40.1 percent audience share, beating ABS-CBN’s 30.8 percent and TV5’s 7.9 percent.

GMA was also the winner in Mega Manila with its 41.9 percent audience share, ahead of ABS-CBN’s 27.9 percent and TV5’s 8.4 percent.

In terms of National Urban Television Audience Measurement, GMA continued to stay on top in the daytime blocks.

In the morning block, GMA recorded 32.7 percent audience share, higher than ABS-CBN’s 30.7 percent and TV5’s 12.6 percent.

As for the afternoon block, GMA posted 38.5 percent audience share, better than ABS-CBN’s 34.4 percent and TV5’s 7.8 percent.
