Best HR practices in employee dismissal

MANILA, Philippines - To educate and update business owners, administrators and HR and legal practitioners on the lawful dismissal of employees and prevent manpower problems, the Center for Global Best Practices is launching the yearly rerun of its special one-day seminar titled, “Best Practices Guide to Valid Dismissal” to be held at The EDSA Shangri-La Hotel, Mandaluyong City, on Nov. 13.

The one-day seminar is applicable to all types of businesses including non-profit organizations. The seminar will cover topics such as the rights of employer and employee, substantive and procedural due process before dismissal, just causes for dismissal such as serious misconduct, sexual harassment, insubordination or will ful disobedience, neglect of duties, abandonment of work, fraud, and will ful breach of trust and confidence, commission of a crime or offense, and other causes of dismissal under Article 282 identified as “analogous”.

Authorized causes for dismissal such as termination due to closure of establishment and reduction of personnel as well as closure of business operations will also be tackled. The objective of the seminar is to teach everyone everything they need to know about termination laws. Additionally, participants will learn the concept of positive discipline, how to implement the grievance machinery, use preventive suspension, and provide solutions to the most challenging as well as common problems encountered by management.
