BAR to join Agrilink

MANILA, Philippines - Supportive of the need to create sustainable income opportunities for the agriculture and fisheries sectors by providing them the means to promote and market their products, the Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR), the research and development (R&D) arm of the Department of Agriculture (DA), will  join this year’s Agrilink, Foodlink and Aqualink.

This year’s exhibition highlights a highly interactive and globally competitive agribusiness arena with the theme “Agribusiness Clusters: Key to Competitiveness within ASEAN” to be held from October 9 to 11, 2014 at the World Trade Center, Pasay City.

As one of this year’s participants, BAR will exhibit and showcase successful technologies and products generated and funded under its National Technology Commercialization Program (NTCP), a banner program of the bureau.

The program highlights research breakthroughs and mature technologies generated and developed by R&D institutions and serves as a vehicle for incubation and sensitization of emerging technologies that will enhance the value-adding of products and processes thus leading to a more competitive position of local industries to both domestic and foreign markets.

The NTCP also serves as a vital tool for the development of enterprises and the improvement of agriculture and fisheries-related industries anchored on appropriate activities emphasizing technology transfer, adoption, and utilization.

Among the NTCP technologies and products to be featured are: soybean, abaca, beekeeping, kapis products, seaweeds, mushroom, coco sap, fruit wines, native swine, sorghum products, and agriculture machines.

Aside from the technology and product displays, BAR will also conduct seminars from its successfully funded R&D initiatives including the Community-based Participatory Action Research (CPAR), which is another banner program of the bureau.

CPAR is a location-specific research cum extension activity that deals with improved farming systems technologies for specific micro agro-climatic environments within the province/municipality.

The program uses the community-based participatory approach, which differs from the conventional way most research institutions do for technology adaptation and verification.

Other lineup of activities will include free tasting of NTCP products, raffle of selected products, and distribution of Information Education and Communication (IEC) materials including brochures, books, manuals, and production guide that will assist visitors in their agribusiness endeavor.

Aside from featuring a variety of agricultural products and services, Agrilink 2014 will also highlight the most up-to-date and ground-breaking inputs, technologies and alliances that can enhance the profitability of the interdependent industries of agriculture, aquaculture and food.

With many international companies participating such as the French Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines and Korea Agricultural Machinery Industry Cooperative, the three-day event will include free seminars, live animal and plant display and other interactive activities that will promote and enhance the potential of different agricultural markets.
