MANILA, Philippines - Twenty five years and 115 winners since its inception, the TOFIL awards program continues to prove that excellence and community service are a powerful mix.
Indeed, the stories of its winners – such as Jaime Cardinal Sin and Justice Cecilia Muñoz Palma in 1988 – have consistently echoed two things: that young people could be whatever they dream themselves to be through hard work; and that social responsibility adds dimension to their life’s work. This was as true in the beginning, as it is today.
Consequently, as the program marks its silver anniversary in 2012, the JCI Senate Philippines and Insular Life once more begins the search for The Outstanding Filipino (TOFIL).
JCI Senate national president gov. Antonio Cerilles and Insular Life chairman of the Board and CEO Vicente R. Ayllon led guests in formal ceremonies to launch the 2012 TOFIL search at the Insular Life Makati Multi-purpose Hall recently.
TOFIL also renewed its tie-up with long-time media associate, The STAR during the event. The two parties signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) formalizing the partnership, as well as the publication of the TOFIL column, Great Leaders in Our Midst during the search period.
An annual recognition program, TOFIL recognizes men and women, 41 years and above, who have excelled in their fields of endeavor and have contributed significantly to the upliftment of lives. Last Jan. 12, 2012, it added five new awardees to its roster: Dr. Jesus P. Estanislao for governance; Dr. Ramon M. Nery for government/ public service; Jose T. Pardo for business; Mrs. Sylvia Dumo-Pendon for entrepreneurship; and Dr. Emerlinda R. Roman for education.
Interested parties may now nominate the 2012 TOFIL awardees.
