Industries to draft individual road maps

MANILA, Philippines - Various industries including ship building, agribusiness and others were receptive to the idea of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for them to create their own road maps and describe the prevailing conditions in their own sectors.

In an interview after the DTI-BOI (Board of Investments) 2012 Strategic Industry Development Forum held at the BOI yesterday morning, DTI Undersecretary Adrian Cristobal said that he has spoken with industry leaders and everyone was willing to cooperate. “They raised some problems but they were minor concerns,” he said

After the forum, Cristobal met with the players of the motor vehicle parts industry to discuss their own road map.

The DTI is in the process of asking all industries for a road map that will include their visions, goals and short, medium and long-term targets.

Aside from representatives from the various sectors, some lawmakers were also present yesterday. In a separate interview, Congressman Albert Garcia, chairman of the House committee on trade and industry praised the DTI and the BOI. “This is a very good forum. Definitely, the private sector and the government should work together for businesses to flourish.”

Garcia promised that the Congress will do their part in helping industries compete in the global market. “We will help enable businesses to become drivers of the economy,” Garcia said.
