Napocor said LGPP was recently conferred the much-coveted ISO (International Organization for Standardization) 9001:2000 certification for Quality Management, the ISO 14001:1996 for Environmental Management, and the OHSAS (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series) 18001:1999.
With the said recognition, LGPP now holds the distinction of being the first government-owned power plant to secure the three ISO certifications.
In 1997, LGPP also became the first-ever power plant in the Philippines to be ISO-certified. In July 2004, the power plant also bagged the ISO 9001:2000 certification for Quality Management System.
The latest ISO certifications were given to LGPP by the Anglo Japanese American Registrars, Inc., a member of the International Certification and Training Group, following a two-day audit conducted last January 18-19, 2005.
Built in 1983, LGPP is located in Bgy. Lim-ao, Kananga, Leyte. The power plant is capable of producing 112.5 megawatts, consisting of three units with a rated capacity of 37.5 MW.
LGPP senior plant manager Aristedes A. Toñacao hailed the ISO certification as "a testament to the cooperation and hard work of LGPP’s workforce, and a tradition that catapults the power plants to new heights."
"This recognition will inspire LGPP officials and staff to perform with even more dedication and commitment to attain the highest possible standards in the field of power generation," he added.
Based in Geneva, Switzerland, the ISO is an international organization for setting standards in operations and management. The benchmarks set by the prestigious group serve as guides for implementing effective quality management systems.
The latest ISO certifications given to LGPP will be valid for three years, subject to the continued satisfactory operation of the plant’s quality environmental, safety and health management system.
