Philippines secures 2023 FIBA World Cup hosting rights

MANILA, Philippines — The bid to host the 2023 Basketball World Cup has come to a close with the Philippines emerging as one of the three victorious countries to host the global hoops tiff, FIBA announced on Saturday, Manila time.

A contingent by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas conducted a 20-minute presentation before the FIBA board in Switzerland. Also joining the delegation was national team head coach Chot Reyes
Argentina and Uruguay, together, were the other finalists that offered to host the global meet .
The Philippines is joined by Japan and Indonesia as a multi-country venues for the the tournament, which is held every four years.
The 2019 iteration nearly went to the Philippines. The country narrowly lost to Asian powerhouse China.
The tournament, which features 32 participating teams, looks at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan, Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay and Smart-Araneta Coliseum in Bulacan as venues.
Four group stage games are reportedly to be played here, while the other four will be split by Japan and Indonesia. The knockout matches will also be held in the Philippines.
