Mindset key for Generika-Ayala's PSL bid

MANILA, Philippines – For Generika-Ayala, making it big in the Chooks To Go-Philippine Superliga (PSL) Grand Prix is all about having the proper mindset.

True enough, the Lifesavers marched with a fighting attitude as they coasted to a straight-set victory over Iriga City, 25-16, 25-15, 25-21, to formally snap a two-game losing skein.

Import Darlene Ramdin saw very limited action, but it didn’t matter as the Lifesavers hounded and pounded the Lady Oragons to submission to claim their second victory in five outings.

Ramdin was diagnosed with diarrhea and was fielded only in the second set of this encounter that lasted for only 74 minutes.

But her absence was hardly felt as Croatian import Katarina Pilepic fired 15 kills, three aces and two blocks for 20 points while Angeli Araneta finished with 13 markers for Generika-Ayala, which competed with a very positive attitude.

“It’s all about having the proper mindset,” said Generika-Ayala head coach Francis Vicente, who also mentored the national women’s team in the AVC Asian Senior Women’s Championship and the 29th Southeast Asian Games.

“They were very motivated, relaxed and happy. They gained confidence early on and enjoyed the game.”

Over the last couple of conferences, the Lifesavers have yet to make a strong impact.

In the previous All-Filipino Conference, Generika-Ayala had a chance to finish fifth, but it faded against a rookie team Cocolife in the classification phase, prompting it to tumble all the way to seventh place.

This conference, Vicente appears optimistic.

“So far, so good,” he said.

“I like their attitude and the way they are playing. I’m sure if we will continue playing this way, our team will go far.”

Again, it’s all about having the proper mindset.
