Cignal romps to D-L final, rips Marinero

MANILA, Philippines - Cignal HD found their range from quartercourt in the second half as it thumped Marinerong Pilipino, 87-64, to advance to the finals in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig yesterday.

Pamboy Raymundo, Byron Villarias and Jonathan Uyloan combined for eight triples in the last two quarters as the Hawkeyes trampled the Skippers and booked a return trip to the championship round with a 2-0 sweep of their best-of-three semis series.

The Hawkeyes thus remained on track for a second straight crown after ruling the previous conference.

But Centro Escolar University shocked erstwhile unbeaten Flying V as it posted a 93-72 rout to force a sudden death in their side of the semis series.

The Scorpions took control at 31-14 on a sizzling 19-0 closing run in the first 10 minutes then fended off the Thunder’s series of rallies to clinch the win and stay in the finals hunt.

The Scorpions also pounced on the exit of Flying V ace Jeron Teng due to fouls with 7:21 left to play as CEU halted Flying V’s incredible run of 11 games.

Robert Herndon and Jeffrey Javillonar wound up with 17 points apiece for Marinerong Pilipino.

Patrick Aquino and Congolese big man Rod Ebondo came through with 18 points apiece with the latter also collaring 26 boards.
