MANILA, Philippines – Gilas Pilipinas’ Japeth Aguilar, Christian Standhardinger and Terrence Romeo emerged as among the top individual performers in the group elims stage of the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup.

Aguilar distinguished himself as the No. 1 shot blocker, Standhardinger came out among the leaders in efficiency while Romeo was among the leading scorers during the group elims where Gilas, Australia, New Zealand and Iran emerged as top seeds from their respective pools.

Aguilar shared blocking honors with Iraq’s Ali Hameed with their identical averages of 2.7. Gilas top defender Gabe Norwood was at No. 6 with 1.7 an outing.

Standhardinger, averaging 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in merely 23.3 minutes a game, was No. 7 in efficiency behind Lebanon’s Fadi El-Khatib, China’s Guo Ailun, Iran’s Mohammad Jamshidi, Australia’s Mitch Creek, Iran’s Hamed Haddadi and Iraq’s Kevin Galloway.

With 17.7 points an outing, Romeo was at sixth in scoring ladder behind El-Khatib (22.3), Guo (22.3), Qatar’s Abdulrahman Saad (20.0), Syria’s Tarek Aljabi (18.3) and Iran’s Behnam Yakhchali (18.0).

In assists, reigning two-time Asian Best Point Guard Jason Castro came in at sixth with 5.0 a game, next to Haddadi (8.7), Korea’s Chan Hee Park (7.3), Jordan’s Mah’d Abdeen (7.0), Galloway (6.3), Australia’s Brad Newley (6.0) and Syria’s William Alhaddad (5.3).
