MANILA, Philippines — For the widely accepted "greatest basketball player of all time," the "King" is behind the "Black Mamba" as far as greatness is concerned.

When asked whether he would rank LeBron James over Kobe Bryant as a great basketball player, Michael Jordan said the number of championships are what separates the two players.

"There's something about five (rings) that beats three," he said during a Q&A session at a recent basketball camp in the US.

"LeBron may be mad at me now, but Kobe won five championships. LeBron won three."

Bryant won his five championships with the Los Angeles Lakers – a three-peat (2000-2002) and a back-to-back. (2009-2010)

He holds the record for the most seasons played for a single franchise after his 20-year stint with the Lakers. He retired last year.

James, for his part, led the Miami Heat to back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013 before returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016 and delivering their first NBA title.

He holds the record for the most points scored in the playoff with 6,163 points. Jordan is at second place with 5,987.
