Ancajas shines on Pacquiao undercard with TKO win
BRISBANE, Australia – IBF junior bantamweight champion Jerwin Ancajas made good on his promise to put on a show on the undercard of Manny Pacquiao’s fight, stopping Japan’s Teiru Kinoshita in the seventh round to retain his title Sunday at the Suncorp Stadium here.
Ancajas, who is promoted by Pacquiao’s MP Promotions, dominated Kinoshita throughout the fight until the climactic finish in the seventh round. He clipped the challenger with a vicious right hook to the body following a jab, sending the latter down on all fours.
Kinoshita managed to get up but was deemed unfit to continue, awarding Ancjas with a technical knockout victory.
The official time of stoppage was 1:53 of Round 7.
It was a perfect ending for Ancajas, who battered Kinoshita through six rounds with overhand lefts and flurries to the body whenever they got close. In the second round, he inflicted a cut to the Japanese’s right eye with a well-timed left.
Ancajas made his second title defense since winning the belt in September last year by outpointing Puerto Rican McJoe Arroyo in Taguig City.
In January this year, he defended the crown with a TKO win over Jose Alfredo Rodriguez in Macau.
With the win Sunday, Ancajas raised his record to 27-1-1, with 18 KOs. Kinoshita, meanwhile, dropped to 25-2-1 (8 KOs)
